Channel Your Inner Whistler Woman with a Girlfriend Getaway

girlsgetaway There is, arguably, no better place for a girls weekend than Whistler, British Columbia.

Consider this: the Whistler woman embodies the best of every world. She’s down for just about any adrenaline-pumping adventure, but equally values a little rest and relaxation. She loves to indulge in a multiple-course fine dining experience, but also knows the joys of knocking back a cold beer and a plate of nachos on a sunny patio.

Ready to gather up a crew of your favourite ladies and channel your inner Whistler woman? Here are some ideas to fuel your itinerary.

Where to Stay

The first decision you’ll have to make is where to stay for your Whistler getaway. Hotels in the heart of Whistler Village are great for groups of girlfriends who want to be right in the action, close to the slopes, restaurants and shops.

Prefer something a little quieter? Check out the Blackcomb Benchlands/Upper Village area, which still has access to the lifts and amenities in the Upper Village, and is only a ten minute walk from the main Village area.

Friday Night

After a long week of work, you deserve something special. Start your weekend on the right foot, with a divine dinner at one of Whistler’s many incredible restaurants.

Alta Bistro is the perfect place to kick off your weekend: the locally-sourced food can only be described as state-of-the-art, and the wine list and cocktail menu is just as awe-inspiring. Upscale yet unpretentious, Alta Bistro is the perfect place to catch up on each other’s weeks and plot out the details of your weekend.

Saturday Day

You’ve probably heard about the crazy adventures that go down in Whistler—the skiing, the snowboarding, the mountain biking, and even the bungee jumping. A day on the slopes is a day well-spent, but if you’d prefer to try something out of the box, there are plenty of other options to explore.

If you’re here for the winter months, check out a dog-sledding or snowmobiling tour. These tours will take you into the beautiful backcountry and will expose a side of Whistler you’ve never seen.

Summer visitors who aren’t afraid to get a little dirty should check out an ATV tour. There’s nothing like a zip lining tour on a sunny day—the views on a bluebird day are phenomenal, bar none.

Saturday Night

Balance out an action-packed day with a glamorous night on the town. Hit up a local lounge, like The Mix at Ric’s Grill for some cocktails and tapas.

Ready to keep going? Decide as a group what vibe you’re aiming for: live fiddle music at the Dubh Linn Gate? DJs spinning at one of the underground clubs? A rowdy pub night at Tapley’s? If you can’t come to a consensus as a group, why not try them all?

Sunday Morning

Congratulations—you’ve earned yourself a mellow day! Make your way to brunch (Elements is infamous for its unparalleled eggs benny and stuffed French toast) and swap stories from last night’s adventures.

Ready for a little quiet time? Whistler offers more than a few fantastic spas, like the Scandinave Spa. The Scandinave offers a hydrotherapy experience, where your group can meander from hot baths to cool pools, or hop between eucalyptus saunas and sun-soaked solariums. There’s no talking allowed, but the silence might be a welcome retreat.

Sunday Afternoon

Spend the afternoon getting grounded: exploring the Lost Lake trails (by cross country ski in the winter, or by foot in the summer) is a great way to reconnect with nature, and you can take it easy or go at it intensely, depending on how you’re feeling. Alternatively, you might opt for a mellow yin class at one of the many studios in town—we love our yoga, here in Whistler.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end—even a girls’ weekend in Whistler. In your blissed-out state, pack up the car and hit the road. Before you leave the Whistler Village for good, stop by PureBread to pick up a tasty pastry for the road. Hint: you can’t go wrong—absolutely every morsel in that bakery is top notch!

One last tip: pass time on the car ride home by plotting our your next Whistler adventure—there’s really no way to do it all in a weekend. Luckily, there’s no such thing as too many weekends spent with girlfriends!
