The Insider’s Guide to the Whistler Village Beer Festival

Good news: the second annual Whistler Village Beer Festival is just around the corner!

Whether you’re a certified connoisseur of all things cerveza or you’re new to the delicious world of craft beer, we’re positive that you’ll have an incredible time at the Whistler Village Beer Festival. To help you make the most of the event (which takes place Saturday, September 13, 2014), we’d like to present you with a very handy guide on how to experience the best of the fest!

Step 1: Establish a Home Base

With so many unbelievable beers to sample, you’re going to want to find a hotel within walking distance from the festival. Luckily, as the name suggests, the Whistler Village Beer Festival takes place at the Olympic Plaza right in Whistler Village—and there are tons of hotels in the area. Book a room now to avoid disappointment—it could be a busy weekend!

Step 2: Get Ticketed

For only $35, nab yourself a general admission pass to the festival. This will get you inside the gates and will grant you five delectable samples to fill your very own Whistler Village Beer Festival novelty mug, plus a $5 off-site food voucher for when you need a little fuel. There are also a few Gate Crasher tickets still available: pay an extra $10 for the privilege of gaining access to the grounds an hour before anyone else.

Step 3: Pick Your Events

The official event runs from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 13, but true beer lovers will want to check out a few of the off-site events taking place throughout the weekend. From a Beer 101 seminar to a sure-to-be-delicious Chef’s Beer Dinner to the Cask Showdown (a battle of the beers), there’s a lot to choose from. Pick your must-sees now and grab your tickets—some of the events are already selling out!

Step 4: Do Your Research

You’re absolutely welcome to simply show up to the event and follow your nose—but if you’re looking to make the most out of your time at the Festival, you might want to look into the 50+ breweries that will be on site in order your plot out your day—and to use your samples wisely. Breweries range from British Columbia’s best, to Canadian classics, to international staples. If you can’t possibly narrow your choices down, not to worry: you can pick up additional tokens for just $1.50.

Step 5: Take a Beercation

What’s a beercation? It’s the ultimate Whistler Village Beer Festival VIP experience, which includes tickets to just about everything (including the after parties) and WVBF swag to sport all weekend long—and the only way to get it is to win it. Get into the beer festival spirit by taking a selfie of yourself swigging back a favourite beer, and post it to any social media outlet, tagged #sippyselfie. You just might find yourself enjoying the best beercation on earth.

Step 6: Go Time!

You’ve done your homework. The logistics have been sorted, your beer mug is in one hand, and your tokens are in the other. Congratulations: you’re officially ready to enjoy the best Whistler Village Beer Festival ever!
